Taita Taveta MCAs want dialogue with Governor Samboja

Members of County Assembly of Taita Taveta have called upon Governor Granton Samboja to call for dialogue in a bid to avert the current stalemate bedeviling the Executive and the Assembly.

Addressing the press outside the County Assembly today, the County Assembly Speaker, Meshack Maghanga, said the Assembly is ready to engage in an open, sincere and honest discourse that will help the County seek a perpetual solution.

The Speaker who was accompanied by the MCAs said the County Assembly is keen to put behind this stand off and seek a lasting solution to this problem.

Hon.Maghanga said there is need for the County Assembly and the County Executive to deliver on the promise they made to the great people of this County which is hampered by the current deadlock.

“The move by Governor Granton Samboja to petition for dissolution of the County Government would derail devolution,” he added.

Hon. Maghanga noted that, what the County is witnessing is a home-based conflict that calls for a home-based solution, even as we seek and indeed have been getting assistance from our other stakeholders that both sides have engaged.

“The first step to ending this standoff is the realization that no amount of grandstanding from our end or the Governor’s end shall in anyway stop the challenges which we and the people are experiencing,” he affirmed.

On 2nd July, 2019, the County Executive of Taita Taveta announced a plan to start a process of dissolving the County Government after a standoff between it and the County Assembly.

The call for dissolution was based on the Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2019/2020 that the County executive rejected to assent to.
