Deputy Majority Whip, Hon. Stephen Nzai has today during sitting No. 059 presented a progress report to the House in response to a statement sought by Hon. Bryson Mwambi regarding the status of Kirumbi slaughterhouse.

Hon. Nzai, who is also the Marungu Ward MCA, informed the House that the slaughterhouse has been inactive for over 10 years, resulting in a loss of revenue for the county. He cited reasons for the facility’s inactivity, including lack of adequate funds.

The Committee found that the construction costs of the Kirumbi slaughterhouse exceeded the initial 4 million budget due to missing of critical infrastructure in the bill of quantities, as well as delays in fund disbursement.

Furthermore, the project was hindered by the lack of water connections in the slaughterhouse’s vicinity. Despite efforts by the water department to connect the facility to the Kimwa Extension Water project and install a 10,000-liter water tank, the contractor abandoned the project due to non-payment.
