The first Taita Taveta County Assembly has 35 MCAs, 20 elected and 15 nominated, in addition to the Speaker of the Assembly. The Assembly has so far employed 54 qualified staff members in the various departments, all of whom were recruited by the CASB through a very thorough and competitive process, who offer support services to the legislators.
The Assembly has put up, and is still in the process of setting up proper structures that will ensure that the Members effectively discharge their duties of legislation, oversight and representation of the Mwananchi, such as equipping our staff with the right skills and information. To this end, we have also reviewed our Standing Orders and acquired new systems and equipment in the different departments, as well as drawing several policies documents that guide our work and make us goal oriented. The Assembly is in the process of formulating a Strategic Plan which will spell out where we want to be in the next 5 years. This is being done in consultation with our stakeholders whose input is paramount in enabling us to walk together in achieving the goals of this Assembly.
Having passed over 13 Bills and debated over 150 Motions by the first quarter of the Third Session, we are optimistic that we in the right track to offering quality services to the people for whom we work. Borrowing best practices from other Parliaments is another aspect that drives our daily undertakings as we can best learn from the best.
The Taita Taveta County Assembly administrative and political wings are guided by the principles of professionalism, openness, accountability and integrity, which serve to propel the Assembly to realizing its vision of being an effective and independent Assembly, and being the number one Assembly in the Country.
In the spirit of participation of the public in governance, which the Constitution of Kenya stipulates, this Assembly is always open to views from the Mwananchi on how best we can operate. Therefore, I encourage you, not only to visit our website and interact with us, but to also physically visit the Assembly and attend our plenary and committee sittings. The Office of the Clerk is always open to receive and answer any queries from the Mwananchi. Through your input and cooperation, we as a County Assembly are sure to scale to greater heights.
Experience Devolution! Thank you.
